Keynote Address
Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:50am - 11:50am MDT
This talk will feature discussions on how AI is impacting networking operations and new challenges it will help solve as data continues to grow in wired and wireless networks. In addition we will discuss how quantum internet will grow out of these current networking application.

AI in general has brought many impacts in many fields. In networking we also see major advantages of employing AI to find unknown patterns in our data sets and how we can improve these. As we strive to improve wide area networks and wireless networks, we also see new developments in quantum networks growing out of current networking infrastructures, using new technologies to allow for coexistence of both optic and quantum channels on current infrastructure.

I am a Computer Networking and AI Scientist and currently serve as Group Lead to ORNL’s Quantum Networking and Communications Group. My research focuses on 'Engineering Self-Driving Networks', exploring AI/ML solutions for improving network performance, flexibility and high-speed distributed data transfers for science. Involving themes of deep learning, software engineering and complex networks, I have developed solutions for optimizing data movement, TCP/IP protocols, learning controllers for Wide area network (WANs), wireless/5G (& Beyond) and Quantum networked devices.
My research impacts DOE’s infrastructure used for high-energy physics, neutron science, materials science, biology, ecology, smart grids and nuclear energy applications

The Flipper Zero and its Impact on Education
Wednesday June 11, 2025 2:30pm - 3:30pm MDT
With the recent New Article about this "Hacking Device" and how it has been used to disrupt instruction in the classroom, we think it's time to "Talk about the FlipperZero".

This will be an overview discussion about the device, its capabilities, and how it is being used maliciously in the classroom. We will provide tools and materials to help train educators on how to recognize use of this device in the classroom. Additionally we will demonstrate some of it's capabilities. And we will give guidance on how to handle students who are exploring this technology appropriately.

Keynote: How to Make Troubleshooting IT Issues Easier
Thursday June 12, 2025 11:30am - 12:00pm MDT
In many industries where very smart people have to deal with super complex situations, they’ve found techniques to minimize errors, saves costs, and work efficiently.

Why don’t IT people follow their example?

We’ll discuss the problem, but more importantly the solution to making IT issues much simpler for all involved. The answer can be surprisingly simple… if we are willing to accept it.

Safety Preparedness through Communications: Introduction to H.B. 84 & Alyssa's Law
Thursday June 12, 2025 1:15pm - 3:30pm MDT
Communication capability is a critical component of school safety and emergency preparedness.  Utah H.B. 84 (specifically IFC, Chapter 5, Section 510.1 and IFC Chapter 11, Section 1103.2) and Alyssa's Law address this need with new requirements for all schools in the state.

An expert panel, including bill sponsor Utah Senator Don Ipson and John Foley from the Safer Buildings Coalition, will discuss the new legislation enacted in Utah, H.B. 84 applicable to all schools in the state, both public and private. https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://le.utah.gov/*2024/bills/static/HB0084.html__;fg!!DZfPdMygIw!HmdNW3oj4U3Y0FFjlUKa9GEgpoU5XBJqWHaFwgQWN4GwlBgmVsZ4IYHpdgZEDoZb3cUI4H4TNfaAT8mmLQRKw5hPU24$ focusing specifically on the requirement to comply with IFC code Chapter 5, section 510.1 dealing with Emergency responder communication coverage in new buildings and IFC, Chapter 11, Section 1103.2, Emergency Responder Communication Coverage in Existing Buildings as well as Alyssa's Law requiring panic alarms.
What is an ERCES, why is it needed, and under what circumstances? How can you test your buildings? What funding is available? How can you deliver a successful project?
