This presentation demonstrates creating local AI with LLMs on edge devices, emphasizing accessibility. It covers setup, management, and use cases, highlighting ease of use and briefly addressing moving experiments to production.
The premise for this presentation is the Steve Jobs quote: "Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them." This presentation will showcases use cases for creating a local, accessible AI environment. It emphasizes the democratization of AI by bringing powerful Large Language Models (LLMs) to the edge, enabling private, offline, and efficient AI applications. The presentation covers hardware and software setup, model management, performance optimization, and potential use cases. Additionally, it highlights the ease of use and accessibility of these tools for a wider audience and briefly discusses moving experiments into production.
In this presentation, I'll give teachers new to AI a roadmap to build confidence and comfort with using AI for everything from SPED data collection to helping all students use AI as a thinking tool (while steering them away from the less fruitful uses). This will be a practical talk with some hands-on practice with prompt-generation. I'll also talk a bit about USBE's micro credentials, of which I've now written two re: AI.
Follow the path to AI enlightenment with Steve Capone, Jr., two-decade educator and AI learning partner. In this session, you'll get a step-by-step guide to using AI and helping your students use AI to improve everyone's outcomes and save you time.
Steve has been teaching for 18 years in a variety of settings and brings his experience to bear as a "guide on the side" at UEN's tech summit. He serves on the boards of multiple educational nonprofits and contributes to USBE's micro credential lineup. He's also been a guest on the... Read More →

With all the advancements in AI, how can you tell which is best suited for your purpose.
Imagine a virtual university, that offered AI agents the chance to receive a degree in a university degree program. The presentation will have 3 general sections: Discussion of the ethics and why. A demonstration of it working on a degree. Finally, a conversation around how it changes the way we should be thinking about education.
