Keynote Address: Command Line Culture
Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:50am - 11:50am MDT
“Command Line Culture” explores how leadership behaviors define and propagate team culture—just like a root command shapes system behavior. Drawing from 25 years in IT, Jeremy Cox reveals how leaders can intentionally set, scale, and sustain positive culture through authenticity, empathy, and ethical example.

In tech, the right command can change everything—and the same goes for leadership. In Command Line Culture, Jeremy Cox unpacks the concept of “leadership contagion,” showing how a leader’s mindset and behavior ripple through an organization to define its culture. Drawing on 25 years of experience in IT from both sides of the team, Jeremy illustrates how intentional leadership in IT can inspire innovation, psychological safety, collaboration, and accountability. Through personal stories, actionable insights, and a systems-thinking approach, this talk challenges leaders to treat culture not as an afterthought, but as critical infrastructure—engineered, tested, and deployed from the top down.

A technical review of recent updates to wireless standards focusing on WiFi-6e and WiFi-7. RF design guidelines, troubleshooting tools and looking toward to the future – WiFi-8.

Ideal wireless design runs counter to our cave-person brains. More power is not the solution for wireless unless both participants, AP and device, can be more powerful. This leads to a frustrating tenet of wireless networks - the client device, not the enterprise network, determines the location and defines the relationship. This presentation will go into making the enterprise network more appealing to devices and delve into how to influence the relationship to deliver more robust and stable wireless networking. The presentation starts with general wireless terminology and then moves on to power and signal considerations. With better design addressed, trouble-shooting tools that have been successful in the field will be introduced. Throughout the presentation references to the new Wi-Fi 7 standard and the design goals of the Wi-Fi 8 consortium will be included. Of course, wireless presentation would be complete without some form of a bakeoff? A challenge will be extended to the audience to keep them engaged.

Cybersecurity Best Practices for School Safety
Wednesday June 11, 2025 2:30pm - 3:30pm MDT
Cybersecurity isn't a one-size-fits-all solution; it's a mindset that must be integrated into every aspect of our digital environments. As school IT environments grow more complex, so do the potential threat vectors, which means protecting them requires a multi-faceted approach. Specifically, when it comes to school safety on digital systems, there are key considerations that can be applied to minimize threats.

Recent reports of breaches in the media have accelerated the importance of cybersecurity best practices. One such breach involved a company that provides services to public schools, where hackers gained access through the company’s support portal using valid credentials. These hackers were able to retrieve "all" historical student and teacher data stored in multiple school districts student information systems. The breach was attributed to the company's failure to implement a basic multi-factor authentication security measures on the affected system. Other reported breaches in other state school districts would have required a different protective measure. In one instance, unauthorized actors gained access to specific computer systems and obtained stored data files. A more effective protection method in this case would have been the implementation of an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solution, which proactively monitors laptops and devices around the clock These are just two examples of different approaches to cybersecurity. There are 4 main elements to consider when protecting digital data. 1. Individual users. In this case, students, staff members and parents. That includes the user and their devices. 2. Systems that are built and controlled by our schools. These are generally managed by the school’s IT teams. 3. Supply chain and the systems that are provided by vendors. These can be cloud and SaaS type technology services. 4. Finally, the network connection that provides the pathway accessing either type of system that connects the users to these applications must be protected.

How Self Hosting FreePBX VoIP is Enhancing Safety, Efficiency, and Savings
Wednesday June 11, 2025 2:30pm - 3:30pm MDT
Discover how school districts in the SEDC region are saving money and improving communication with an easy-to-manage FreePBX VoIP system. Learn about remote provisioning, E911 compliance, voicemail-to-email, and more—delivering enhanced safety, flexibility, and major cost savings with minimal effort.

In this session, we will explore the deployment of a VoIP system utilizing FreePBX, focusing on key features that enhance communication, improve safety, and generate cost savings. Our implementation includes remote phone provisioning, enabling seamless connectivity for users across multiple locations while simplifying device management. We have integrated E911 services through Clearly IP, ensuring compliance with Ray Baum’s Act and Kari’s Law, which mandate accurate location reporting and direct emergency dialing. Additionally, features such as voicemail-to-email and intercom functionality enhance accessibility and collaboration within our organization. Several LEAs in the SEDC region have successfully transitioned to this VoIP system, with others currently in the early stages of implementation. One of the most significant benefits of this transition is substantial cost savings, reducing traditional telephony expenses while increasing flexibility and scalability. This presentation will outline the key components, challenges, and benefits of our FreePBX-based VoIP system, demonstrating how it improves both operational efficiency and emergency preparedness.

Wednesday June 11, 2025 3:45pm - 4:45pm MDT
Discover Graylog's features and learn how to efficiently collect logs, filter out noise, and forward them to Adlumin for analysis.

Join us for a compelling demonstration of Graylog’s powerful capabilities in this session. We’ll provide a brief overview of its core components—sidecars, pipelines, extractors, streams, dashboards, and queries—showcasing how these tools enable effective log management and analysis. Through this guided exploration, you’ll see practical examples of how Graylog collects, processes, and visualizes log data, alongside archiving strategies using the Graylog Community Edition. Additionally, we’ll demonstrate how to seamlessly forward filtered logs from Graylog to Adlumin for advanced security analysis, highlighting the integration of Graylog’s robust log management with Adlumin’s cutting-edge cybersecurity platform to enhance threat detection and response. Please note, this is a demonstration, not a hands-on workshop; it’s designed to equip you with a clear understanding of how to optimize operational efficiency and security workflows.
